Le ‘Mur des Douaniers’, un gisement fossilifère exceptionnel de l’Eifélien basal

Le gisement fossilifère du ‘Mur des douaniers’, à la frontière franco-belge, contient une faune benthique riche et diversifiée de l’Eifélien inférieur, et notamment de nombreux trilobites. Les analyses de paléobiodiversité et de sédimentologie ont conduit à une interprétation générale du contexte paléoenvironnemental/paléoécologique. Une telle localité particulièrement riche en trilobites constitue un site fossilifère exceptionnel à l’échelle régionale. Malheureusement, victime de son succès, le site paléontologique a été fermé au public pour devenir une réserve naturelle. Dorénavant, aucun examen critique des conditions de genèse du gisement, aucune observation ichnologique, sédimentologique, géochimique s’ajoutant aux données paléontologiques ne pourra être réalisé afin de permettre une meilleure synthèse paléoécologique.
