About the Journal

SGF wishes to publish in its Bulletin original high-level articles on all fields of the Earth Sciences. Only those manuscripts which present new data, interpretations or methods, of general interest and targeting an informed international audience, will be accepted. Therefore, we do not publish uninterpreted data, nor do we accept papers of only technical or local scope. On the other hand, we do wish to publish occasionally high-quality review papers.

Assessment (2006) of articles submitted to SGF for publication

Articles in English or the first author of which is a foreigner. On average, 14% of articles submitted in English are refused, as against 41% of manuscripts submitted in all.
In parallel, the percentage of articles published in English is clearly increasing (73%). Also increasing is the proportion of published papers of which the first author is a foreigner (whether they be submitted in English or in French) (38%).
As a consequence, the Bulletin is now seen as an increasingly international vector for publication.

Articles published in BSGF, by topic. While on average, the papers appearing in BSGF deal essentially with sedimentology (27%), tectonics (15%), stratigraphy (4%) and paleontology (12%), all other fields of geology (geophysics, geochemistry-hydrology up to 8%) can be represented, in varying percentages from one year to another, including papers on the history of geology. The Bulletin remains therefore a general-purpose journal in which everyone is welcome to find his/her place.

Articles published in BSGF, by geographical area of study. On average, the papers in BSGF are mostly on France (33%), Southern Europe (17%), North Africa (10%).

In conclusion, the chief editor would like to draw attention to the amount of team work that goes into the preparation of the Bulletin. The team working meetings held every Monday morning are both effective and informal. The chief editor thanks his associate editors and Françoise Rangin with whom all complicated matters become simple!
